Waacking Workshop ✨

Join us for a dynamic workshop exploring Waacking — a powerful dance style born in the dance clubs of 1970s West Coast USA, rooted in the LGBTQ+ community.

What is Waacking?
Originally known as punking, the dance emerged as a form of self-expression and empowerment, reclaiming the word "punk," which was once a derogatory term for gay men, especially in Black and Latino communities. The dancers transformed it into a celebration of identity and emotion, using dramatic storytelling through movement — almost like performing in a silent movie.

The term waacking came later, inspired by the sharp, rhythmic arm movements that characterize the style. Dancers create fast, fluid shapes and striking poses above and around the head, often performed to vibrant disco beats. Waacking draws inspiration from Hollywood's golden age, embodying elegance, strength, and individuality.

What to Expect:
In this workshop, we’ll dive into the basics of waacking, practice freestyle movement, and explore expressing emotions through dance to make it performative. Whether you’re a beginner or have some dance experience, this is your chance to unleash your inner star and celebrate self-expression through movement.
